Storage Tips for Silicone Raw Material: Ensuring Performance Starts with Proper Handling
Silicone raw materials, especially solid forms like high-temperature vulcanized (HTV) silicone, are sensitive to temperature, humidity, and time. Improper storage may lead to hardening, surface crusting, stickiness, or premature vulcanization, which can negatively affect processing efficiency and product quality. Proper storage is essential to maintain the performance of silicone materials and ensure stable production.
Avoid Direct Sunlight and High Temperatures
Prolonged exposure to sunlight or high temperatures accelerates the aging of the raw material and may lead to premature curing, discoloration, and other issues. It is advisable to store the material in a cool, shaded area.
Prevent Air Exposure and Contamination
Prolonged air exposure can cause surface crusting and attract dust, oil, or other contaminants that affect mixing and molding. After each use, the remaining material should be tightly wrapped in PE film or plastic wrap to keep it clean and soft.
DIAO delivers each silicone raw material strip in vacuum-sealed packaging, keeping it free from contamination and ready for immediate use—ideal for applications requiring a high level of cleanliness.
Avoid Storing in Oil-Fume Environments
Silicone raw material is not resistant to oil, especially to mineral oil, lubricants, and diesel. In environments where the air contains oil mist or volatile organic compounds, the surface of the material may soften, become sticky, or discolor. In severe cases, it can affect the curing performance and the quality of the final product. It is recommended to store the material away from areas with high concentrations of oil fumes, such as engine rooms or pump stations. A clean, oil-free, and well-ventilated space is preferred.
Diao’s silicone raw materials are formulated for improved contamination resistance, but to ensure optimal stability, sealed packaging and proper isolation from oil vapor sources are still strongly recommended.
Manage Usage Cycles and Follow FIFO
Silicone raw materials have a limited shelf life, especially under high heat and humidity. To minimize performance variation, all inventory should be labeled with production dates and formula codes. Follow the “First In, First Out” (FIFO) method for inventory management.
Why Choose DIAO Silicone Raw Materials?
When it comes to raw material storage, DIAO not only offers consistent product quality but also supports efficient inventory management through professional packaging, clear labeling, and detailed technical documentation. The materials offer strong adaptability and high stability, helping ensure consistency in downstream production.
Storing silicone raw material may seem straightforward, but it involves several key aspects such as temperature control, contamination prevention, curing management, and batch traceability. Mastering these techniques—combined with choosing a reliable supplier like DIAO—helps minimize risks and ensure stable, high-quality production. For manufacturers focused on efficiency and product consistency, good storage practices are a core part of competitiveness.
